Whitby Dene Care Home in Eastcote, Middlesex
Whitby Abbey was a 7th-century Christian monastery that later became a Benedictine abbey. The abbey and its possessions were confiscated by the crown under Henry VIII during the Dissolution of the Monasteries  between and Since that time, the ruins of the abbey have continued to be used by sailors as a landmark at the headland. Since the 20th century, the substantial ruins of the church have been declared a Grade I Listed building and are in the care of English Heritage ;  the site museum is housed in Cholmley House.
The name Streoneshalh is thought to signify Fort Bay or Tower Bay , in reference to a supposed Roman settlement that previously existed on the site.

Awesome place for a serious first date. We had a nice booth with great service. Top end all the way around; food, washrooms, service are all upscale. It’s not the cheapest place in town but great spot for a special occasion. It lead to a fun relationship with a great person. I’d go back.

Spankingly fresh fish and a super location. Andrew Pern, whose name is synonymous with his Michelin-starred pub, The Star Inn at Harome, has long wished to open a restaurant in his hometown and to celebrate the ingredients he grew up surrounded by and with which he began to learn to cook, even before he decided to train as a Chef at the former Scarborough Catering College. Opened in June , the restaurant celebrated its first birthday with its first industry award, an AA Rosette.
Desserts include some childhood Ice Cream Parlour classics brought up to date. Surf ‘n’ Turf-style dishes are a restaurant speciality mirroring its ‘one-foot-in-the-sea-one-foot-on-the-Moors’ location. Traditional Cod and Haddock are fried in a gluten-free batter, originally developed with our coeliac customers in mind, but it was so good that we have made it our standard.
Many of our menu dishes can be adapted to suit a wide range of dietary requirements, especially with advance notice. Whitby is steeped in history. The East Side of Whitby is the older of the two sections and the location for the Abbey, the founding point for the town, which dates back to AD. At the bottom of the steps that lead to the Abbey is Church Street formerly known as Kirkgate , whose cobbled streets and many cottages and houses date from the 15th century, when the numerous narrow alleyways and yards provided escape routes for smugglers and gangs of youths from the customs men and press gangs who were hot on their heels.

The East Side of Whitby is the by far the oldest of the two sides. The old cobbled streets stretch from the bottom of the Abbey Steps along Church Street , Sandgate and to the north along Henrietta Street. Henrietta Street , named after Henrietta Cholmley is only a short street in relation to its former glory in , when upward of 1, residents lived there.
A landslip in , and a succession of further landslips have led to its present length. At the northern end of the street is Fortune’s Kipper House dating from , founded by William Fortune.
